Oleksiy Bogolyubov is a Ukrainian jazz and classical pianist, composer, arranger, teacher, and producer who has been living in Germany since 2022 and settled in Cologne since 2023. He was born on March 16, 1986, in the city of Kryvyi Rih.
As a jazz pianist, he has performed with Godwin Louis (USA), Mark Gross (USA), Freddie Hendrix (USA), Sinne Eeg (Denmark), Mark Bernstein (USA), Alessandro D’Anna (Italy), Alex Fantaev (Israel), Gregory Boyd (Denmark), George Stavroulakis (Greece), Sandy Winarta (Indonesia), Roberto Garcia (Cuba), Yissi Garcia (Cuba), Hernan Jay Rodriguez (USA), Alain Oyono (Cameroon), Gerhard Ornig (Austria), Dominik Fuss (Austria), Odei Al-Magut (Netherlands), Moran Baron (Israel), Meir Ben Michael (Israel), Melvin Taylor (USA), Wissam Arram, Nelly Manukyan (Armenia), and Tamara Lukasheva (Ukraine-Germany).
From 1995 to 2000, while studying at a music school, he won multiple awards at children's jazz festivals. In 1999, he was named the best student-composer in the Dnipropetrovsk region. In 2000, he entered the jazz department of the Kryvyi Rih Music School, and in 2002, he transferred to the jazz department of the Kyiv R. M. Glière Music Institute.
In 2005, a composition by double bassist Valentyn Kornienko, recorded during Oleksiy’s first studio session, was included in the compilation of Ukraine’s best bassists, "Bass-Kolo." The ensemble of Viktor Solomin, Ukraine's only jazz domrist, named Solominband and featuring Oleksiy, was recognized as Ukraine's best jazz fusion project in 2006. That same year, Oleksiy became the regular musical partner of Jean-Pierre Froehly, the cultural attaché of the German Embassy in Ukraine and jazz guitarist.
In April 2009, the video concert of Ukraine's best jazz pianists titled "Piano-Kolo" was released, in which Oleksiy participated. In 2010, he was a participant in the Berlin Jazz Fest. In 2012, with the support of Energobank, Oleksiy Bogolyubov’s first official album, "My Cool and Crazy World," was released, featuring ten of Ukraine's most renowned jazz musicians.
In 2015, he opened his private music school in Kyiv.
In 2016, he worked as a pianist and arranger for the chamber orchestra "Virtuosi of Kyiv" as part of the "Svitlo Concert" projects.
Same year he participated in the creation of the Ukrainian global pop song "Oberig" as an executive and musical producer, arranger, and pianist, alongside 25 Ukrainian pop stars, the chamber orchestra "Virtuosi of Kyiv," a choir, and a rhythm section.
In 2018, he began teaching jazz piano, theory, and composition at the Dnipro Music Academy.
In 2019, the jazz album "Trajectory of Mood," recorded at Berlin’s Hansa Records studio, was released.
In 2020, he began research on the topic "Ukrainian Motifs in Modern Jazz" to pursue the academic title of Doctor of Arts. In 2022, the research had to be paused due to the start of the war and his relocation to Germany. However, the album titled "Travelling to the Centre of Europe," which is the result of this research, is set to be released in 2025.
During his two and a half years in Germany, Oleksiy began working at a music school in Cologne and performing concerts in jazz clubs in Germany, Belgium, Italy, Finland, Spain, and other EU countries. He participated as a pianist in recording of the Advantage Project album "Eternal Changing." He collaborates with the international music company Fever, under whose direction he has already performed numerous Candlelight concerts in Germany, the Netherlands, and Romania.
